What is mindfulness? Defined, it is strictly a mental state achieved by focusing one’s awareness on the present moment, while calmly acknowledging and accepting one’s feelings, thoughts, and bodily sensations. Is there a special skill involved? Yes and no. Let us examine mindfulness.

Health Benefits
Everywhere a person turns today they hear more and more about mindfulness. Your health care professional encourages you to practice mindfulness for blood pressure, cardiac care, stress levels, relaxation, releasing anger, improving relationships, and so forth. Indeed, Positive Psychology Program reports that there are 23 amazing health benefits of mindfulness for body and brain. In addition to those mentioned above, some of the others include improved sleep, reduced irritability, increased energy, improved cognitive skills, and a better performing immune system.
Well-Being and Cognition
In addition to the health benefits, there are some other genuine pleasures gained from mindfulness. Practitioners of mindfulness report an improved sense of self, greater abilities to focus, a higher sense of well-being, a feeling of connectedness, and an indescribable sense of inner peace and calm.
Further, neurologists have documented physical brain changes as a result of a regular meditation practice, something that is a part and parcel of mindfulness. These changes enhance the clarity in thinking and perception. Additionally, the changes improve memory as well as other brain skills. Gray matter is increased and the brain is rewired in ways that neuroscientists can observe.
Well-Being and Cognition
All of this from mindfulness! You would think that every person on the planet, knowing the benefits obtained from a mindfulness practice, would immediately take it up—wouldn’t you? The fact is—few do. Why? It takes discipline, thinking differently, planning, and commitment. What do I do? How do I do it? Are there tools to aid me in developing a mindfulness practice? These are the sorts of questions most ask. Well, to make the process easier for you, we have just created our brand new Optimal Mindfulness album.
