Newsletters: Volume 1 No. 4 Keep Up! (Or Change the Station Quickly?) Date: Wed, 2 Aug 2000
15:44:59 -0700 I thought you might enjoy this story. What we believe, we become. Angela A LEAP OF FAITH! The Mind has tremendous power. Not only can it lift the spirits, it can actually lift a physical being. Let me tell you the story. When I was teaching physical education at a small private school I decided to hold a Junior Olympics competition. As each successive round was played, I found I would come home drained. The reason? I hadn't yet learned to contain my forces as I "willed" each child to his or her highest physical potential. But I soon learned to protect my energy as I sent it forth. There was one particular child, Charles, a boy of eight years whose body weight was too high and whose energy level was just short of zero. We had been told that he failed in most everything he tried; hence, his enrollment into our school. Since I know that the Act of Belief is ninety percent of success, I strove to prove to this child that his potential had not even been scratched. And I enlisted the help of the other seven children in his class. One of the Olympic feats was high jump, whereby, a cane pole was suspended between two stands. When Charles made his first attempt at the jump, it was a half-hearted one which resulted in knocking the bar off the stand at SIX INCHES! I called the class to my side. "Children, our new friend Charles needs our help." When all seven agreed they would "help" Charles make his next three jumps, I turned to the boy in question. "You have a job, too, Charles. Not only do you have to run and make the jump, but you have to believe. Can you do that?" The boy shrugged. "I'll do my best." I smiled. "That's all we're asking you to do." The first jump was not so successful. Charles had to learn to pause at the starting line, centering his concentration while the other children and I mentally bathed him in light, imagining the object of our own concentration, literally floating over the height bar. The second jump was better. He cleared the rod well above the two foot mark. "Now, Charles," I said, "we are going to help you jump three feet." "I'm afraid." "What can hurt you? We're here." "You've gotta believe, Charles," said Missy. "Yeah, Charles, we can only help you if you help yourself." "Okay, okay," said Charles. "I believe." "You gotta mean it, Charles." "I do, I do!" And so the third jump began. He stood at the starting mark, closed his eyes, imagined himself running swiftly, jumping strongly, clearing a three-foot height. He opened his eyes, stepped out and ran like the wind, fairly flying over the measuring rod. Eight pairs of eyes followed his every move, eight bodies tensed, willing him over the rod, eight minds concentrated, seeing his total success. And, of course, he did it. THIRTY-SIX INCHES where before he had failed at SIX INCHES! Now that's a leap of faith. Joan Bramsch From: (Barbara Teeple) Dear Eldon, I hadn't hear of SIT (your pet hypothesis) before but it makes sense. I don't recall when I first started turning off the commercials when watching TV. But it has been for some time now. And I do it for exactly the same reasons you mention. I refuse to "buy" into "medicating" myself because of a headache, a cold, the flu, breast cancer, alzheimer's, heart disease, impotence, MS, etc. Heck! I don't even want to think about these things let alone manifest them. I just hate it when they predict 3 out of 10 will get such and such disease. I don't see myself in any such statistic. I'm in my 60's and my main daily affirmation is: "My body, mind and spirit is forever young." I feel great!! Last year, I thought
it would be a good idea to get myself into shape. So I decided I would
take a paper route. Well, the route required a mountain goat to get
up to some of the homes. Way, way up!! Within a week I tripped over
a block of wood in a driveway and sprained my ankle. Since I don't give
up easily I needed another week to trip on some stairs and injure my
ankle even further. I know my mind was at work here to get me out of
this situation. It worked!! Boy was i glad! Not long ago I thought it would be a good idea, because I'm interested in knowing, to devote a day to check how many ads on TV are actually related to illness. I'm curious so now I will do it. I'm well aware of how powerful the mind and suggestion is. A friend of mine was diagnosed at least 20 years ago with MS. She learned all she could about it and changed certain things in her lifestyle, But mostly I remember she would never accept or own it by saying I have MS. She would simply say, "I have been diagnosed as having MS." She lives a very active life and has had a symptom or two manifest, on occasion, over this time. I think it only happens when she becomes over tired. I recall as well, as a friend, I was doing what I could to support her and suggested that we attend some meetings for people with MS. At the one and only meeting we attended I was overwhelmed by the number of people in wheel chairs. I told her I could not go back because I could never see her being that incapacitated. Somehow, I felt that it was possible to become that way by association. I also thought at the time that it would be much more beneficial to be with healthy people. This newsletter was of particular interest because I believe we are inundated with very negative information. It seems sad to me that pharmaceutical companies would want to help make people sick (through suggestion) so they can make money. Thanks again! Have a great day! Barbara Teeple |
